Day 12: Lupine Meadow

Jenny Lake and the Grand Tetons

Jenny Lake and the Grand Tetons

Driving up the western road, we take the turnoffs to view Lupine Meadows – a poorly titled place, since the stunted small lupines are in short supply where we drive. Then to Jenny Lake, with a splendid overlook that makes up for the otherwise tree-blocked glimpses of the scenery.

Signal Mountain is scaled, a drive we should have skipped, but the map doesn’t reveal how steep, narrow or high these roads are – they are just black lines on the page. Worse, despite the signs that campers, trailers and RVs should not scale the peak, some fools try it anyways, causing jams as they try to turn around to return. However, the views of the valley are spectacular, the steep slopes of the mountain covered with yellow flowers and alpine grass.
