Our original plan was to spend an hour at the museum; in fact we spent and hour and a half. Despite this, we went on to stop at Fredericksburg Battlefield. That in itself provided some interesting views, and photos, but the visitor’s center was being redone, and the nearby manor was not quite where we thought it was. In truth, many of these battlefields are exactly that – fields, and without a good guide, there’s not much to see.
With time running out – and yet another access point to I-95 clogged with traffic due to an accident of some sort, we drove out of there on Old Route 1.
The annoying thing was, when Pops clocked out our time before leaving, the computer said it would take seven hours tops. The car GPS declared it would be eight hours, from a point further along the route.
Turned out, the car GPS was correct. And the drive was a long, tedious affair.
