Day 3: Returning to the U.S. Marine Corps Museum

We backtracked to the Marine Corps Museum to view it just as it opened in the morning.

For Mum and Trixie, it was quite a moving experience, as we went through the crafted dioramas tracing the Marine Corps from their beginnings at Tum Tavern to present day. The war against pirates, their actions during the Civil War as seagoing sailors, and their gallant battles during the First World War.

As we got to the more modern era –World War 2 and after – there were the artifacts Mum remembered from her childhood that were set pieces for the home front scenes. In a special place of honor, they have the flag that was raised on Iwo Jima on display, and a memorial wall denoting those who died in that battle.
