Day 22 – Taking in the Falls

The observation tower you can pay to access for another view of the falls.

The gorge is far deeper and wider that one would expect; far below, the dual Maids of the Mists ferryboats from America and Canada eagerly take on swarms of tourists wearing bright blue disposable ponchos to take the short cruise into the spray of the falls and gaze into the maw of nature’s fury before they are whisked back to shore tossed off, and the next load of eager tourists pile on.

From our limited vantage point, just next to the observation tower that juts out over the river, you can see slightly saner people walking on the pathways to get a view at their own pace. Each point of access, from the panoramic tower view to the lowly rock-crawling positions below has been expertly arranged to ensure the swift easy transition of money from tourist’s pockets into the local economy – and at $33 for a complete ticket for a single adult to visit all five major attractions, it must be a tsunami of cash.
