A small recreation of a Lakota community is below Washington’s head.

Pops left Mum – and Trixie in her cart – to view the museum, and dashed off to take the Presidential Trail, a long loop around the Amphitheater to get closer to the heads. A Lakota memorial village of three teepees, a drying rack, and a ranger sit for people to visit and inquire about the original natives who were promised these lands in 1868 for all eternity – and lost them less than a decade later.
