Day 13: Old Faithful Again

Old Faithful erupting

Old Faithful is our noontime stop, and the place is an absolute zoo. Perhaps the geyser is aware of this, and it has a number of fitful half-starts of it bubbling up then falling, then again, and again, until finally it spout up loud and high, amazing the crowds with Nature’s primal forces,

Forces that are tardy, I should add, since Old Faithful may be faithful, but it is not punctual – it was supposed to go off at 1:35 plus or minus ten minutes, but went off closer to 2:00. Then like another unyielding force of nature, the mobs of tourists who had encircled the now-quiet geyser swarm away to the visitor’s center to overwhelm the meager bathrooms and gift shop.
