Day 13: Returning to Yellowstone

The ‘river view’ side of the hotel in Gardner MT was something of a bust, as the river was on the other side of the road, behind a supermarket and a church – but it was possibly one of the better sleeps we had.

We returned to Yellowstone through the Theodore Roosevelt Archway, pausing to take photos of it. When the park was first opened, this was the main entryway into it, as stagecoaches took visitors from the train up and up the dizzying twisting road to Mammoth Hot Springs, which is still the park headquarters.

The roadway is still twisty, but in very good shape.
