Day 4 – Exploring Springfield

Pops reunited with Mom and Trixie, and we retreated to the cooler climes of the visitor’s center to inspect artifacts and find mementos of the visit.

From there, we attempted to visit the church that boasted it hosted the Lincolns, and offered tours, but in true Christian and Midwestern fashion, it was apparently closed to the public, and any inviting signage suggesting a way in was absent, relying upon divine intervention for visitors to deduce how to enter this holy of holies, and thus extract an additional tithing of admission from our weary pockets.

Pops explored the exterior while Mom and Trixie awaited on the other corner in the shadow of a more impressive but less noteworthy church, took photos of the edifice and the neighboring brooding government buildings, and we returned to the car, well exercised at least, if less educated.
