The Hancock overlook provides a sweeping vista of the valley we passed through, driving up hairpin turns to get this far. With the foliage gone, the mountains can be clearly seen, and the steep mountainsides are covered with a recent dusting of snow.

This side of the highway is much rougher and steeper in quality, as we ascend up under granite cliffs, pulling off to admire the slopes of Mt. Osceloa and Mt Kancamagus. Skiers may pause along the side of the road to admire the long white streaks on these steep mountainsides, dreaming of testing their skills, but there is no access to those distant peaks in the wilderness below.
