Walking back to the hotel, Pops decided to duck into the Second Bank of the United States, which was located directly across from the hotel we were in The building is now a portrait gallery, filled with paintings, but he was interested in the architecture. It is a solidly built grey granite fortification, with thick walls, and oddly enough, pink walls inside. Brown wood doors, and grey columns attempt to add some dignity to this pink and white color scheme that may have been in fashion during the period.

This was mostly driving, pausing outside New York City before passing through it’s cavernous roadways, and a stop at Cousin Isabelle’s place to see her. We visited with her for a while, then went along, pausing at Old Sturbridge Village and then returning home late in the day for a well deserved rest in our own beds.
