Our extra day saw us out early – and facing the prospects of needing tickets for Independence Hall. In January and February tickets were not needed. So Pops went all the way to the visitor’s center and back to get a ticket, and sent Mum through.
Pops and I waited in the park, since security was kind enough to let us go into the park. It was cold, windy and somewhat restful as we waited at least.
Once Mom came out, we went to the visitor’s center, stopping at the gift shop and getting some meager provisions for us to eat. Then it was off on a rather long walk Pops had charted out for us that took us on a clockwise trek around the hotel’s block to see nearby attractions.
Passing the brutalist structure of the U.S. Mint, we paused to pay our respects at the grave of Benjamin Franklin, visible through a rod metal fence. At the entry to the brick-walled cemetery, we found them charging admission to go in and gawk at the stones there – I guess even the dead need to pay their taxes in Philly – sorry Ben.
